“Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm” – Winston Churchill
I’ve been mulling over that quote for the past week. It’s particularly relevant as I’ve been recounting my first full year of ministry here in Singapore.
For myself and Diana, it’s been one heckuva (almost) first full year in Singapore. We’ve been through a lot of major life transitions and we were recently sharing how we felt like God has stretched and re-formed our perspective on ministry and faith. To be honest, it’s been a tough year – overwhelming most of the time.
And that isn’t just for us – as we’ve had the privilege of walking alongside our church family, our whole community has faced tremendous trials as well as incredible joys. It’s been one heckuva year for all of us.
This is the promise I’m holding onto and one that I’m praying for our church:
“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” (James 1:2-4, NLT)
Joy is not the absence of trouble. Joy is the perspective we decide to have smack-dab in the middle of troublesome times. And what gives us the ability and hope to have joy is knowing that God is for us and is working through all things for our good, to His glory.
I want to share with you HMCC of Singapore’s End of the Year recap video. It gives a glimpse of our church’s story this past year. I actually didn’t know how our Media Ministry team members were knitting this video together, so when we watched it together as a church this past Sunday, I was so blessed to remember how good our God has been to us! Thanks team for a wonderful job and helping us recount God’s faithfulness!
There’s so much more to come for the 2016-2017 year and I’m looking to the Lord to see us through every season!
