The first and last year
We will celebrate as two
One and one, now three
Joy is Learned
Diana and I are excited to share with you that we are expecting our first child! In short, we were genuinely astonished when we found out Diana was pregnant.
On some days, we get excited as we look at cute baby clothes. On other days, we are overcome with anxiety and question if we’re doing anything right as clueless expectant, first-time parents. I have been learning how to appreciate and receive God’s gift of life in a deeper way, and to be thankful through all the unknowns. It’s been both a spontaneous joy and a learning process.
The Father’s Heart:
What’s been making more and more sense to me are these lines from one of my favorite psalms:
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
They cannot be numbered!
I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
you are still with me!
It’s so true – even before our child will know us as parents, my thoughts towards this baby are countless and numerous. And I know my thoughts are incomparable to God’s thoughts, purpose, and love for His children. How deep the Father’s love for us!
As much as we’re excited to be parents, Diana and I’ve been learning to trust God more and more – God is the true author of life and He is gracious to sustain us.
The Mystery of Marriage
Diana and I took time aside today to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, so much had happened this past year that I couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that it was just one year. As we were sharing our favorite and most memorable moments, we were thankful for all the support that we’ve received from so many people.
We couldn’t have done this alone. While marriage is that sacred union between one man and one woman, a family does not grow in isolation. Our family grows as we’re rooted in God, nourished by our community, and as our love is constantly being perfected through thick and thin.
I’m so thankful for my beautiful wife, Diana, who is truly a gift to me. And I tell Diana this frequently: she’s a true champ. The most beautiful champ I have the privilege of witnessing every day. I’m glad that I get to run this race together with Diana and anticipate more and greater things!
Please pray for our (expanding) family:
1. Pray for our marriage
As we celebrate our first wedding anniversary, it’s been nothing short of a wild roller coaster ride. Please pray that Diana and I continue growing in Christ-like love for one another through every season.
2. Pray for our child
Please pray that our child will be healthy; and that Diana and I would grow in our understanding of God the Father’s love, so we can faithfully display a glimpse of that to our child and point our child to God!
3. Pray for our intimacy with God
Praise God! I got accepted into seminary and Diana got hired to work part-time with Focus on the Family here in Singapore! As we are both growing in scope of responsibilities as workers, ministers of the Gospel, husband, wife, and expectant parents, please pray that we’d remain centered and rooted in Christ.
